The manhunt is over in southern Missouri for three prisoners who escaped from the Butler County Jail shortly before midnight Monday night.
Authorities say the three escapees were apprehended Tuesday afternoon at a scrap yard east of Poplar Bluff. Matthew Cook and Kade Stringfellow were being held on murder charges. Rodney Green was being held for numerous assault charges. The trio escaped through the ceiling tiles of the Butler County jail.
Butler County sheriff Mark Dobbs estimates about 40 officers surrounded their hideout and arrested the men without incident. He says the escapees traveled the railroad tracks out of town and took cover in the salvage yard because they were too vulnerable during daylight in their orange prison uniforms.
The Butler County Sheriff's Department lead the manhunt with the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
