A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect for portions of southern Illinois and southwestern Indiana.
The National Weather Service says Coles, Shelby, Cumberland, Clark, Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland and Lawrence counties remain under a wind chill advisory until 12:00 pm today.
Wind chills across the region this morning have dipped as low as -10 with 20 to 40 mph wind gusts. Winds are expected to decrease during the day. The forecast calls for mostly sunny and cold conditions today with a high of 15. Partly cloudy with a low of zero tonight. Tuesday's high is expected to be again around 15 degrees.
Wind chills of that magnitude can result in frost bite on exposed skin in as little as 30-minutes. Those outside without sufficient protection will run a high risk for frost bite or hypothermia. The coldest wind chill values will occur around school time as kids are arriving at school and waiting for busses.
