After two decades in office, State Senator David Luechtefeld (R-Okawville) says "it's time" to move on.
Luechtefeld's home sits outside his current State Senate district, thanks to new legislative boundary lines drawn after the 2010 census.
While he was allowed to run in 2012, he would have to move into the district in order to run in 2016. Luechtefeld says he won't move, and this will be his last term in office.
Elected for his first term in 1994, Luechtefeld has risen to leadership in the Senate. He currently serves as the Assistant Republican Leader.
