Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced that 24 million dollars from the Juul Labs settlement will support Truth Initiative's EX program in Illinois.
The program aims to prevent nicotine use and addiction in teens and young adults throughout the U.S.
Raoul filed suit in 2019, alleging that e-cigarettes were intentionally marketed to young people as flavored, disposable vaping products.
He said, "The sale of flavored vaping products continues to be a problem throughout the state and nation, and I appreciate Truth Initiative educating Illinois youth on the dangers of vaping while empowering them to live healthier, vape-free lives through the EX program."
The EX program is an evidence-based quitting resource developed by Truth Initiative, a nationwide non-profit campaign launched in 2008.
Data from years prior reports that the program can help youth increase the odds of quitting nicotine by 40%.
As part of the initiative, Illinois middle and high schools will receive access to the "Vaping: Know the Truth" curriculum and other resources informing students of the risks of nicotine.
