WSIU welcomed nearly 300 children and families to the Nature Trail at John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois, for our first Twilight Glow Party.

Encouraged by the enormous response on October 4, we’re hoping to make this an annual event to encourage reading, exploration of nature and the arts…including music and dance.

Here was the event lineup for 2024:

-Prepare to embark on a nocturnal journey down Discovery Trail…Meridian has mini flashlights to take with you

-Read with Ripley and Quincy Public Library

-Get Creative with Arts Quincy & The Budding Artist

-Star Gaze with the Quincy Astronomy Club

-Show your Skills at the Glow Stick Salsa Dance Party

-Enjoy hands-on exhibits with the Quincy Children's Museum

-Rock Your Emotions with WSIU PBS (art design creations on a rock children could keep)

-Enjoy Refreshments from Niemann's, Shandi's and Pepsi

Over the last three years, WSIU has continued to grow its educational programming in the region.

Earlier this year, we hosted our first Family Fun Day in Quincy and our second Family Fun Day in Springfield, which included free admission to the Henson Robinson Zoo. These events followed our annual Family Fun Day at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mount Vernon.

We also partnered with the Marion Carnegie Library to pilot a media training program and continued our popular “Top Teens” series, in which area high schools honor top performing students.

Thank you for supporting WSIU to make these events possible, along with our 24/7 PBS KIDS channel and educational programming on our WSIU PBS.
