The new Major League Baseball season kicked off Thursday.

In the latest edition of Reading Baseball, Pete Peterson reminisces about his own Opening Day memories.

Pete also explains some Opening Day traditions that involve the Cincinnati Reds hosting the first game and presidents throwing out the first pitch.

Reading Baseball is a series of essays and commentaries by Richard “Pete” Peterson, the author of Growing Up With Clemente and the editor of The St. Louis Baseball Reader.
