The newest group of teacher graduates from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Teacher Education Program will be recognized during a special pinning ceremony on Dec. 13.

About 39 candidates for graduation have completed their student teaching, the final educational milestone in their path to becoming professional educators. They will receive their pins, marking the end of their SIU undergraduate experience, from the teachers they’ve served alongside this fall. Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the ceremony, set for 5 p.m. in Shryock Auditorium.

Each of the students will be recognized during the festivities. Family members, friends and the cooperating teachers who supervised the students as they put the lessons learned at SIU into practice will be in attendance along with SIU faculty and staff. While completing classes at SIU within the colleges hosting their majors, the students begin practicing the art of teaching during part-time clinical placements during their junior year of college. After three semesters with practical experience and completing their classroom studies, they devote their final semester to full-time student teaching, working in numerous schools in districts all over the region.

A reception will be held in conjunction with the graduate pinning ceremony.
