Carbondale, IL – Southern Illinois University Carbondale raised 106-million dollars during its first ever comprehensive capital campaign.
The effort began in the summer of 2002. SIU-C Interim Chancellor Sam Goldman says it's a major turning point for the university.
Goldman says nearly 68-thousand people contributed to the effort. $20 million will be used for scholarships, $50 million for academic programs and $14 million for classroom improvements.
A special celebration in honor of the successful fundraising campaign was held Friday evening on the SIU-C campus.
