Chicago, IL – A consumer group says public transit is not getting the share that it deserves in the state's proposed capital program.
Illinois Public Interest Research Group Director Brian Imus says the governor's proposed capital plan is insufficient for roads, and very insufficient for transit.
Imus says his group favors repairing current roads, but not building new ones. He says the demand for transit is growing, and some of the federal stimulus money should be shifted into transit. The stimulus program gives Illinois $1.4 billion for transportation, of which $414 million is allocated to transit.
