Murphysboro, IL – Murphysboro Police are warning residents of an apparent mail scam.
Officers say the scam involves Advanis Mystery Shopping Incorporated.
They say what looks like a valid check made payable to the victim is sent, the victim is then instructed to cash the check and mail a portion to Canada by way of a money gram.
Local banks and law enforcement warn residents to verify any checks obtained through the mail.
Advanis Mystery Shopping Incorporated is apparently a legitimate business whose identity is being used for the scam.
