Marion, IL – It's a program that's already up and running... but one Williamson County Commissioner says he still has grave concerns about a recycling initiative.
Commissioner Ron Ellis says the project was approved, and money was spent, without a vote of the County Board. He says despite good intentions, there are many questions left unanswered.
Ellis also wants to know how plans to expand can move forward without a revenue stream, and why private businesses are profiting from a county project.
Teresa Stearns Katubig helped launch "Recycle Williamson County" with Board Chair Tracey Glenn. Katubig says there is no special interest conspiracy, only a desire to change.
The recycling program is funded this year with a matching grant from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
Commissioner Tracey Glenn says she doesn't see a problem with the program, but admits they are still working to finalize all the details.
