Marion, IL – The Democratic Nominee for Williamson County Sheriff is getting some on-the-job training, as the appointed Sheriff until after the General Election in November.
Bennie Vick was appointed to the position today (Tues) in Marion. He'll take over for Interim Sheriff Les Higgins. Higgins took over when former Sheriff Tom Cundiff retired at the end of December.
Vick has nearly 40 years of law enforcement experience, and says he's ready to bring that perspective to his new job. Vick beat out two others in the race for the nomination last week. He'll face former Sheriff Dennis Presley, a Republican, in November.
County Commissioners voted 2-to-1 in favor of Vick, with Republican Ron Ellis objecting. Ellis says he'd rather wait until the election is certified, which will be next week.
