Metropolis, IL – A movie theater closed more than 30 years ago in Metropolis is one of the state's ten most endangered historic places, according to Landmarks Illinois.
The organization's website says the Metropolis Theater was completed in 1938 and closed as a movie house in 1978.
The City acquired the property in 2007, and while it's structurally sound, the interior is largely destroyed because the roof has collapsed.
Officials are now looking at options for the facility's future, which could include the local school district using it for performances and special assemblies.
Feasibility studies would be needed, and cost estimates complete, before any work could go forward on the building.
