Prize Scam

By Brad Highland

Marion, IL – A new scam is circulating in Williamson County.

Residents have reported receiving letters from Premium Awards Department which seem to say they have won a large cash prize. The letter instructs them to complete and return a form along with a small "Procedure Fee," paid by cash, check, or money order.

The scam is designed to take a small amount of money from a large number of people and to obtain checking account and bank routing numbers from the people who respond.

The Williamson County Sheriff's office says a legitimate prize does not require any type of payment or "procedure fee" from the winner.
