Marion, IL – Three prisoners from the Marion Federal Penitentiary escaped for a brief period Friday night.
The U.S. Department of Justice says local law enforcement notified the prison staff around 8:00 P.M. that during a vehicle stop, they encountered three people who appeared to be prison inmates.
Prison staff conducted an emergency head count and discovered three inmates were missing.
One of the inmates was quickly apprehended by local law enforcement. The other two were apprehended when they returned to the prison grounds around 9:45 P.M.
The incident is being investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Williamson County Sheriff's Department.
