Carbondale man taken into custody after he crashes a stolen vehicle

A Carbondale man faces multiple charges after an incident Monday afternoon.

Carbondale Police responded to the 900 block of West Main Street regarding a stolen vehicle occupied by a suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Andrew Walker, Jr.

When officers arrived around 2:30 p.m. Monday, the suspect drove over a curb and fled in the vehicle north on North Oakland Avenue. The vehicle crashed near the intersection of North Oakland Avenue and West Willow Street. The suspect fled on foot and was quickly apprehended by officers.

Officers charged Walker Jr. with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, Possession of Controlled Substance and outstanding warrants from Jackson and Union Counties.

Walker was treated at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for minor injuries related to the crash. He was released from the hospital and taken to the Jackson County Jail.
