A southeast Missouri law enforcement officer has turned himself into the Alexander County Sheriff's Department for his involvement in a shooting incident last fall.

Illinois State Police say on October 28 at about 3:30 p.m., multiple agencies from southern Illinois and the Mississippi County Sheriff's Office were involved in a pursuit of a stolen Mississippi County patrol truck, which had been stolen by a suspect.

During the pursuit, a deputy from Mississippi County and one from Johnson County in southern Illinois fired their weapons.

At the end of the pursuit on Allen Road, just west of Buncombe, the uninjured suspect was taken into custody.

The Illinois Appellate Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the incident and on Thursday charges of Official Misconduct and Battery were filed against Mississippi County Sheriff's Office Captain Barry Morgan.

He posted bond and was released.
