Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms impacted the region on Sunday producing widespread damage and leaving over 100,000 customers without power at its peak.

In addition to a line of severe storms, the National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-3 tornado began north of Goreville, moving east across I-57, I-24 and Route 37 before dissipating just west of Lake of Egypt. The tornado was on the ground for approximately 10 minutes with peak winds of 150 miles per hour.

Damage reports include roof damage to homes, snapped power poles, snapped trees and at least one manufactured home was destroyed. One Johnson County resident in the Lake of Egypt area suffered broken bones.

The National Weather Service continues to gather information across multiple states that saw the severe weather Sunday evening.
