Campers enjoy playing a parachute game during a previous Camp Beta at Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center.

Registration is now underway for this fall’s Camp BETA, a free overnight camp for youth with type 1 diabetes.

The camp is organized by SIH Diabetes Care Manager Lisa Nation. Her team's goal is to provide a safe space where youth can meet and share experiences with others like themselves. The camp also aims to help them gain confidence and independence while managing their diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition where the pancreas makes little or no insulin. Over time, it can lead to complications in several organs, including the heart and kidneys.

Youth within the ages of 10 to 16 with type 1 diabetes and living in the southern 16 counties are encouraged to register for Camp Beta which is set for September 7 and 8 at Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center in Carbondale. You can learn more about Camp BETA and register here www.hsidn.org/camp-beta.
