The National Weather Service in Paducah says much of the region can expect snow developing late Sunday into Monday morning.
In its latest briefing on Sunday evening, forecasters say colder air on the back side of the storm system will change left over precipitation to light snow overnight and into Monday morning. Accumulations of 1 to 2 inches of new snowfall is possible through Monday morning. The heaviest accumulation will be focused across southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and southwest Indiana.
The Ice Storm Warning has been downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory that remains in effect until Noon Monday for much of the region. Freezing rain and drizzle is expected to continue Sunday night across the region until it transitions to light snow from west to east.
Severe cold will likely result in refreezing of roadways even where melting was observed Sunday afternoon. Locations within the Ice Storm Warning area will likely continue to experience downed tree branches and power lines causing extensive power outages through the night and into Monday morning.
