The City of Herrin, IL is celebrating a big milestone. It was first incorporated as a city on April 17th, 1900.
125 years later, city leaders have planned a 2-day Incorporation Day event to honor the city's rich history and bright future.
A ribbon cutting and proclamation reading is planned for Thursday at Noon at City Hall. A tree planting ceremony in collaboration with their sister city in Italy will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 2.
Friday night, the festivities begin at 5:30pm at The Herrin Civic Center. A a screening of the videos “A History of Herrin Illinois” and “The Magical season, the 1957 Herrin Tigers” movie-showing at 6pm followed by a cake-cutting and live music with Cat Daddy-O, from 7 to 10pm.
All events are free and open to the public.
