Two SIU alumni are hosting an event to build stronger bonds for them and their fellow black alumni this weekend.

Ashley Banks is a 2015 graduate of SIU. She's hosting an event for black alumni called the "Legacy Pour". They're leading a trip to Blue Sky Winery for wine and food tasting.

Banks says that she and her co-organizer Dorissa White created the the event to celebrate the legacy, community and connections they have as Black alumni.

Banks is eager to see the event come together after planning it for the last year. She says building connection helps strengthen the bonds of the alumni as well as opportunities for future generations to be successful.

The event is Saturday July 19th from 11 to 3. You have the option of riding on a bus leaving from the SIU Student Center or meeting the group at Blue Sky Winery. Banks hopes to build this event so that it can become part of the official Black Alumni reunion held every other year at SIU.
