Illinois 12th district representative Margaret Croke filed her nominating petitions Monday for the Illinois Comptroller Democratic primary. She campaigned in Carbondale during SIU's homecoming parade and tailgate last weekend.
Margaret Croke has been on the campaign trail since July running to replace Illinois Comptroller Susanna Mendoza who announced she is not running again for the position.
Croke is currently the state representative for the 12th district covering the north side of Chicago. She's never run a statewide campaign for herself, but she's served on other statewide campaigns. She knows it's important to connect with Illinoisans from across the state. That's why she traveled to southern Illinois last weekend to meet voters.
Croke says her work as the deputy chief of staff in the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and working on the state's budget as a state rep pushed her to run for comptroller.
She wants to continue building on the successes she's seen from Mendoza. She sees opportunities to modernize systems, build better predictive monetary modeling and maximizing federal matches.
Croke wants to use the comptroller role to help families weather changes made at the federal level.
Other candidates for Comptroller are Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim, State Senator Karina Villa, and State Rep Stephanie Kifowit.
