The annual Governor's Sale of Champions at the Illinois State Fair celebrated the best in Illinois agriculture, with youth exhibitors showcasing exceptional livestock and commodities. Governor JB Pritzker and First Lady MK Pritzker purchased the Grand Champion Steer for the fifth year in a row, contributing $105,000 to benefit Feeding Illinois food banks. This marked a record-setting total of $110,000 for the Grand Champion Steer.
The event not only recognizes excellence in agriculture but also supports the future of the industry by helping young exhibitors invest in their education and future projects. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion exhibitors receive a portion of the proceeds, which they often use to pursue higher education or reinvest in their agricultural endeavors.
CME Group demonstrated their commitment to education by contributing $50,000 toward scholarships for nine participants, while Beck’s Hybrids provided $20,000 for the grand champions. Other notable purchases included a $5,000 sale for the Grand Champion Rabbit Market Pen, $8,500 for the Grand Champion Market Lamb, and $25,000 for the Grand Champion Barrow.
The Governor's Sale of Champions underscores the hard work and dedication of youth in agriculture, while bringing together community and industry leaders to invest in the future of the state's agricultural sector.
