Carbondale Poet Wins Award in Illinois Emerging Writers Competition

A Carbondale man is one of the winners in the 2017 Illinois Emerging Writers Competition.

Bryce Berkowitz received third place for his poem entitled  Explain Yourself.
Berkowitz joins a long list of southern Illinois writers to win awards in the 13 years of the competition created by Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White.

Past recipients include two-time winner Whittney Jones of Harrisburg, Christopher Wilson and Jonathan Veach, both of Carbondale, Jonathan Travelstead of Murphysboro, Elizabeth Ziglinski of Marion and Peggy Davis of Mt. Vernon.
