A southern Illinois ballplayer for the Thrillville Thrillbillies suddenly passed away Monday.

The organization canceled Monday night's game in honor of Ashton Smith of Du Quoin, who was a catcher for the first-year franchise in the Collegiate Prospect Baseball League.

After his high school career in Du Quoin, Smith played at Rend Lake College and then at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky.
