A new manufacturing center in Mt. Vernon is expected to add dozens of jobs in Jefferson County.
Governor JB Pritzker joined local leaders in announcing Manner Polymers' new facility. The company will make polymer compounds - including some to be used in electric vehicles and solar panels.
The $54 million facility will be powered by a 15-acre solar field. Leaders say the state's Reimagining Energy and Vehicles, or REV, incentive program helped lure the Texas-based company to southern Illinois.
Production is expected to begin by the fall of 2025, and when it hits full stride, company leaders expect a capacity of 100 million pounds of PVC, helping to shore up Manner Polymers' supply chain.
The flexible PVC made in the factory will be a component of numerous vehicles - specifically in brake and battery cable wiring, as well as other parts.
