Figuring out what to do in the aftermath of a scam can be incredibly stressful.
Scams affect people of all walks of life.
The Better Business Bureau often shares tips on how to avoid scams, but you might still be at risk right after a scam happens.
The BBB says scams don’t just hurt financially – they also impact people emotionally.
BBB regional director Sydney Waters says scammers take advantage of these strong feelings in the days after a scam has occurred.
"Our scam tracker risk report found that 10% of the respondents, and these are just people who answered our survey, were impacted by a scam three or more times. That's immediately after that first scam happens when your emotions are running high and you're very vulnerable."
Waters says the top priority after a scam happens is to protect yourself from further damage.
