First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale Presents a Musical Murder Mystery Melodrama: The Perfectly Pilfered Portfolio
When: Friday, October 10. Doors open at 6:15pm. Light desserts and beverages will be served. The production begins at 7:00pm.
Where: The sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church at 310 S. University. The parking lot is in the rear of the building and is shared with Meredith Funeral Home. The entire ground level of the church is accessible.
Why: To save the world, of course. And to have a really fun and entertaining time. And to support The Carbondale Laundry Project as well as the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance program. Donations will be accepted at the door before and after the performance.
The show’s official title is Intrepid Iona of Interpol and the Pernicious Problem of the Perfectly Pilfered Portfolio. This is the last in a series of musical melodramas performed at the church since 2019. This production is performed as “radio theatre”, with the cast reading their scripts, in front of both a live audience and on Zoom.
The plot is pretty simple: It’s 1975. Some felonious felon has broken into the Folger Library in Washington DC and has stolen the First Folio, which is an extremely valuable collection of William Shakepeare’s plays. But they didn’t just stop there. A series of booby-traps have been set in order to dissuade any potential crime solvers from actually solving the crime! Time is running out before the Folio is lost forever and the villainous villain makes a clean getaway. It is a perfect case for Inspector Iona and her sidekick Dr. Bob. Mayhem, hilarity, awful puns, and dubious Shakespearean references will ensue.
