Latin Hip Hop as a New Poetry

Latin Hip Hop as a New Poetry

Southern Illinois Culture & Arts in Bilingual Education (SI CABE) is partnering with Carbondale United and the Carbondale Public Library to host a lively, bilingual interactive presentation for youth and families that includes video, rich discussion, and lots of musical enjoyment! Catalina Maria Johnson makes a strong case for hip-hop by Latino and indigenous artists from the U.S. and the Spanish-speaking Americas as a legitimate form of contemporary poetry: https://ilhumanities.org/speakers/catalina-maria-johnson
This event is offered as part of the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Bureau in celebration of National Poetry Month 2025 in southern Illinois.
