The Beloved Puppetistas invite you to Saturday puppet-making workshops beginning on Saturday March 9 from 10:00am - 2:00pm and running through April 20. Create puppets of your favorite species in preparation for the 10th annual All Species Puppet Parade taking place on Earth Day, April 22. Puppets are made from cardboard, recycled, and gifted materials, and are crafted and decorated during the workshop. Some are wearable, others can be supported using bamboo poles. We have lots of fun supplies for you to use. No experience necessary. All workshops are free, and everyone is welcome. Join us for this community celebration of all species that inhabit this good earth. Workshops take place at the Rainbow Cafe LGBT Center 118 N. Illinois Avenue Carbondale

The South District Elks Lodges in cooperation with the Illinois Elks Children’s Care Corporation will sponsor a Free children’s orthopedic assessment clinic on Friday April 26, 2024. The clinic is from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and is by appointment only. To make an appointment call the Illinois Elks Children’s Care office at 800-272-0074 between the hours of 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. There are no charges for any services at this clinic. No medical referral is necessary for the clinic. The clinic is an ideal time to have a child reviewed for bone and joint development.
The Elks will hold the clinic at the Marshall Browning Hospital, 900 North Washington Street, Du Quoin. Dr. Alan Froehling from Mount Vernon will be the clinician.

Teachers with the Southern Illinois University River Region Master Teaching Fellows Program will host their third annual Family Eco Festival at Alto Vineyards on April 27th from 1-5pm. This is a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization, Innovations in STEM Education; money raised from the event will fund grants to distribute to local teachers in need of science materials.

Hands-on science stations at the event will include tardigrades and microscopes, information on habitats, environmental education, and arts and crafts. There will be live music, vendors, and food offered throughout the day. Fundraising includes a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and donations. This is a family-friendly event with fun to be had for all ages!
Sponsors for the event are the National Science Foundation, Alto Vineyards, Southern Illinois Healthcare, StraightUp Solar, SCORE Grant with Illinois Education Association, and AES Solar.

The Village of Alto Pass is announcing its 3rd annual, Cinco de Mayo Festival. This event will kick off at 9:00 AM. The festivities will include a parade, at 12:00 PM. It will include a pet parade. The event will include, Mexican food vendors, margaritas and beer, clothing vendors, The Cobden Folklorico Dance Team, will perform at 1:00 PM, Pinatas at 3:00PM. There will be music and bouncy houses for kids all day. The Festivities will begin at 9:00 AM and end at 9:00 PM.

Join us for a Star Wars-themed event suitable for all ages! Dress up as your favorite characters, participate in fun activities, and enjoy a galaxy far, far away right in your own neighborhood. May the force be with you!
