Indie Lens Pop-Up (presented by ITVS, INDEPENDENT LENS, WSIU, and Carbondale Public Library) will host a screening of “A Town Called Victoria,” featuring a discussion following the film. Join WSIU at the Carbondale Public Library on November 8 at noon for a conversation about the power of faith and community in the face of upheaval and hatred.

On January 28, 2017, leaders of the Victoria, Texas, Muslim community, Abe Ajrami, Omar Rachid, and Dr. Shahid Hashmi, watched as their mosque burned to the ground. A Reel South and INDEPENDENT LENS original series from award-winning filmmaker Li Lu, “A Town Called Victoria” follows the aftermath and investigations into the fire to answer the question of how a multi-faith community can come together to heal and turn against hate.
