Communities across the country are marking January 16 as Rev. Martin Luther King, Junior Day, in honor of the late Civil Rights Leader.
In Southern Illinois, Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton is in the area to deliver two holiday addresses.
The first is the annual NAACP breakfast, held at the SIU Student Center in Carbondale.
The other will be a brunch at the St. John Praise and Worship center, sponsored by the local NAACP in Pulaski.
Stratton will talk about the importance of giving back.
Stratton is the first black Lt. Governor of Illinois, and the first black woman elected as chair of the national Lt. Governors’ association.
