On New Year’s Day Illinois’ minimum wage will increase to $12 and hour
Minimum wage workers in Illinois will see a bump in their paychecks in 2022.
The minimum wage will increase from $11 to $12 an hour, but some businesses fear this could increase other costs as well.
Italian Village owner Debbie Bridges says they've noticed some services are already increasing their prices and they are doing what they can to lower cost without increasing their prices.
“We don't think it's going to affect us, but I'm not real sure because, you know, then are our food costs are going to go up and then that way that it will start. You know, we already know that, um, our um, trash service is going to be going up our tap cleaners, going up, um, everything else going up.”
In 2019 Governor Pritzker signed the wage hike legislation to put the state on a path to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025.
