Champaign Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen has been elected President of the Illinois Municipal League (IML) during the organization’s Annual Business Meeting, part of the 111th IML Annual Conference held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
This prestigious event saw Feinen take over the leadership of the statewide association, a position she will hold for a one-year term.
Feinen has served as an IML Vice President since 2020 and has been an active voice on the board, advocating for various municipal issues.
In her acceptance speech, Feinen expressed her enthusiasm for making a positive impact across the state of Illinois, emphasizing her commitment to tackling the pressing issues that communities face daily.
“It’s an honor to be elected as the Illinois Municipal League’s President, and I look forward to working with my colleagues as we continue to address the critical issues we face in our communities,” she said.
Alongside Feinen’s election, Village President Sheila Chalmers-Currin of Matteson was named First Vice President, and Mayor Gary W. Manier of Washington was chosen as Second Vice President.
Both will assist in leading the organization over the next year.
The IML CEO is the former Mayor of Carbondale.
This election took place on September 21, 2024.
