Illinois added 4,100 new payroll jobs in April, reaching a record high of 6,172,500—marking the second straight month of record-setting employment. The unemployment rate held steady at 4.8%. Major job gains came from government, education, health, and hospitality sectors, while professional services and manufacturing saw declines. Over the year, Illinois added 36,100 jobs overall.
Deputy Governor Andy Manar said this consistent progress for three months in a row explains the state's economy has continued to show stability and resiliency.
