A student at Shawnee High School in Union County is still in the running in a national scholarship competition.
Autumn McMahan has been selected as a semifinalist for the Coca-Cola Foundation Scholarship.
McMahan is one of 79 semifinalists from Illinois out of over 95,000 applications nationwide. Nearly 1,900 students nationwide will now compete in the semifinal round.
In January, 250 students will be selected for the final round. 50 of those students will receive scholarships.
The scholarship award is 20-thousand dollars. In addition to using funds for tuition at an accredited college or university, scholars may also use their funds for other educational expenses, such as on-campus housing, a computer, and textbooks.
