Scholarships

Legence Bank is donating $137,500 dollars to SIU-Carbondale to help bring a Saluki education within reach of local students.

They will award 15 college juniors $20,000 each over their junior and senior years of college.

Uncertain weather and widespread illness in the region led to the decision to postpone the event.

More than 600 high school students competed in the selection process.

Most scholarship information is available for free.

Chancellor Austin A. Lane and other university officials paid surprise visits to present the scholarships and congratulate the 16 students from 11 area high schools.

The scholarship recognizes high school students who personify high ethics through leadership, community service, overall personal integrity and academic history.

DCFS is currently accepting applications for the upcoming school year.

The annual Teachers Forum is back at SIU with all the winning speeches being presented Thursday, November 2nd at the Student Center Auditorium.
