Classes Cancelled as Murphysboro Teachers Strike

Images

Murphysboro District 186 teachers are on strike.
After a last-minute mediation session Wednesday, teachers rejected the administration's modified offer. That means there will be no school Thursday, and until the strike ends all extra-curricular and school sponsored events will be cancelled.

The Board's negotiating team says it made changes to the offer it presented earlier this week, but the Murphysboro Education Association says those changes don't go far enough to compensate teachers or address student safety.

Both sides say they're ready to keep negotiating, to bring an end to the impasse.
