This week the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Illinois started being a remote learning site for their members.
Like lots of organizations, The Boys and Girls Club of Southern Illinois has had to make a lot of changes to adapt to COVID-19.
That includes operating as a remote learning site for students who need a place to learn.
Half the gym in Carbondale has been divided into learning pods for different grades.
Executive Director Tina Carpenter says the kids are adjusting quite well to this unique start of the school year.
“The kids miss seeing their teachers face to face, they are seeing them because it is live remote learning, but they’ve done really well, I’m just impressed with the way the kids are adapting, I mean they’re resilient, their flexible and they’re doing what needs to be done.”
The club used pipe and drape they already had to form the pods and students sit on opposite ends of banquet tables to maintain social distancing.
Everyone must wear a mask and temperatures are checked twice a day.
