A southeast Missouri school district is switching to remote-only learning for the time being to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

The Perry County School District in Perryville will close its campus at the end of the school day this Friday.
On the district's Facebook page, Superintendent Andy Comstock stressed this was not the local health department's decision, but one based on metrics established by the school district, which Tuesday saw the Community Risk Alert jump to Moderately High. He says this places the nearly 24-hundred students and 350 staff members at higher risk.

There are currently just over 100 active cases in Perry County, Missouri and over 400 since the pandemic began.

The district will send out information to parents about the following week's plan each week starting on September 10.
