A southern Illinois junior college basketball player has been named the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association National Student Athlete of the Year.
Carmi-native Devin Rankin from Southeastern Illinois College has received the prestigious award based on academics and community involvement, paired with athletic performance.
In addition to being an important member of the Falcons basketball team, Rankin maintains a 4.00 GPA and is on track to graduate in May with his Associate in Arts degree.
He has also served as the Student Trustee on the SIC board for the current academic year.
In the basketball off-season, Rankin held the assistant baseball coach title at Carmi Middle School.
