Frankfort School District 168 says it's been made aware through a social media post that teachers from American Federation of Teachers Local 817, IFT-AFT and AFL-CIO, held a vote Wednesday afternoon to file an “Intent to Strike” notice with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board.

Superintendent Matt Donkin says school will remain in regular session at this time while the Board of Education continues to meet for bargaining sessions with the Teachers' Union to find an agreement on a new contract.

He says more information will be released to students and families in the coming days to answer questions that may come up regarding any potential schedule adjustments.

The two sides have been talking since May. Teachers are working under the terms of the expired contract while negotiations continue.

Donkin is encouraging every member of the community to read and review the October 3 Public Posting Documents from both the Board and the Union.
