A Solar Working Group is Spreading Awareness About Solar Energy.

Since April, 18 solar power systems have been built in five southern Illinois counties at reduced cost, thanks to  the work of the Solarize Southern Illinois Working Group.  Dale Ritzel with Solarize SI says families, farmers and business owners in the region were able to save money by joining together into one buying group.

"There's been a lot of successful community group buy projects within Illinois, Champaign, Urbana, Bloomington and the metro east area of St. Louis."

In addition to saving money on their electric bill, Ritzel says many solar users also do it to reduce their carbon footprint.

Ritzel says the deadline to apply for the next group buy is September 30th, and he encourages those interested to tune in to any of the free webinars about solar power.
