The U.S. The Department of Energy selected Carbondale as one of the 30 communities to participate in the Local Energy Action Program, or LEAP.

The U.S. The Department of Energy selected Carbondale as one of the 30 communities to participate in the Local Energy Action Program, or LEAP. The program provided 18 million dollars towards clean energy and economic development in these historically low-income communities.

The communities will receive assistance over a 12 to 18-month period to create action plans that reduce local air pollution, increase energy resilience, lower utility costs, and create more jobs. Each community, including Carbondale, will work with the Department of Energy to develop a clean energy plan.

Carbondale will focus on clean energy, creating energy-efficient buildings and infrastructure, and green transportation planning and investment.
