The Southern Illinois Farming Alliance is hosting Field Days at local farms in the region.
Southern Illinois Farming Alliance is a project of Food Works, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a sustainable food economy in Southern Illinois.
During the year they host Field Days to encourage area growers to learn from each other by sharing their success and challenges.
On June 12th, Illinois Country Harvest in Prairie du Rocher is the site of the next Field Day.
The sustainable farm grows heritage grains, native plants and produce and raise heritage pigs.
They’re providing tours of their small scale grain fields and will discuss crop selection, seed saving, and other farming practices they incorporate on their 12 acre farm.
Field Days are open to the public, but a donation is suggested for nonmembers of the Southern Illinois Farming Alliance.
