The SI Wellness Mission in Carbondale last month was one of three Innovative Readiness Training mission in the tri-state area put together by the Delta Regional Authority and the Department of Defense.
The S.I. Wellness Mission spent 12 days at the Carbondale Civic Center offering free basic medical, dental, optical and mental health services.
More than 750 people showed up for military providers to perform over 2,400 procedures.
Leslie Durham with the Delta Regional Authority says it takes about two years to plan each mission and they could not it without the military’s help.
“Bringing health care to underserved communities, in the Delta region. Authority covers 252 counties and parishes in the most distressed, underserved county of the entire nation, so it makes sense to partner with the military to be able to bring these services to our region.”
The three medical missions helped almost 3,000 people with more than 9,000 services with an estimated value of $1.1 million dollars.
