A new physical therapy facility in Herrin is offering expanded access to therapy with a dedicated area for pediatric rehab.
Southern Illinois Healthcare has expanded physical therapy offerings with the new building, which has been open to patients since July.
One feature is a separate physical therapy area for pediatric patients, which includes games and space for kids to run and play as part of their therapy. Ryan Thompson said it's been amazing for his son Maverick, who has cerebral palsy.
"It terrified me and Mom to, to come to the point where we'd have to force him to come. Where we had to answer, Dad why do I have to go there? That's the most, that's horrific. That thought is. But the crew here in this place, they have completely eliminated that burden for us. I could say it a million times how grateful we are for that, but that burden's gone. Because he loves it. He loves it," Thompson said.
The facility also has space for adult physical and occupational therapy and therapy focused on sports injuries.
