It’s enterovirus D-68, and Illinois Department of Public Health director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck says he does not know why there’s a rise now. But “there seems to be a cluster of cases in the Midwest; this virus seems to be circulating in the Midwest area now,” he says.
Hasbrouck says the enterovirus D-68 is not common and acts just like the flu, except with the breathing complications. He says anybody with these symptoms should err on the side of health and safety and go to the doctor.
