According to mental health professionals, to effectively treat children with mental issues, because of a bad home–life requires getting different health providers on the same page. And, this Saturday, May 4th, the behavioral health care provider, Centerstone, is presenting a day long conference focusing on doing just that. The "Trauma Informed System of Care" conference starts at 8:30AM at John A. Logan College and is open to health care providers and community members . Centerstone's Nicole Tippy says that the latest research shows that addressing home trauma and toxic stress is not just a 'mental health' issue; but needs to be treated in a holistic way where different professionals work together, instead of remaining in so–called 'service silos.' Tippy adds this Saturday's conference will focus on getting everybody on board with this community–wide system of care. Saturday's conference is free. Other partners involved in the event include the Children's Medical and Mental Health Resource Network, Prevent Child Abuse Illinois, Heartland Regional Medical Center, Southern Illinois Healthcare, SIU Medicine and others.
